He does keep me busy. I sometimes forget that this little boy who has the height and strength of a 3 yr old does not have the processing of right and wrong or what may or may not cause him to get hurt of a 3 yr old. Things I am learning real quick......don't leave the laptop where he can get ahold of it and use it as a freesbie...... don't leave your morning coffee out where he can find it, try it and decide he doesn't like it and proceed to pour it out all over the couch.......cook on the back burner whenever possible because he can reach his hand to the front flame (no worries figured out this one while the stove was off!!).......don't leave milk where he can climb up on a chair unless you want your floor washed with it......oh and so many more. He is keeping us on our toes but he keeps me young :)

We had our first Dr. appt and he is doing wonderful. He actually is almost on the "typical" chart with height and weight......yay Caleb!!! Once again this is an example of how amazing foster homes are. They suppled him with the nutrients to grow into a healthy, strong little man. We had to have blood drawn for a ton of testing for all different things including a chromosome test to confirm down syndrome especially because China never did this....that is so weird to me. Well they needed so much blood that we had to come back on Monday and he did wonderful. They had to poke him 5 times to get what they needed and he just kept grabbing my hand and putting it to his face to rub his cheek. Yes he is doing great in the bonding area. Loves to be held, hummed to (though Ben continues to remind me I am so off key and he is not sure how it comforts them....lol), rocked and just plain cuddled.
This past Sat he started with a cough and then Sun and Mon night he had a fever over 104 so today I took him back to the Dr and sure enough he has pneumonia. We had to give him an antibiotic shot in each leg. Oh it hurts so bad to see your children in pain but the bonding happening between us is even stronger.
Can I just say how blessed I am with all my family and friends. I have had very little sleep the last 2 nights which makes for a crabby, emotional mommy. If you have friends or family that has adopted let me just tell you how important it is to support them. From when calling my mom to her showing as much concern for him as she would have for any of our kids, to my dad who could tell I was having a hard day saying it will be fine. Your body will recover. You will get through it and he will get better. To a friend not even questioning when I asked to bring the other 2 kids over during the appt and walking in to a house full of her friends.....never did she act as if there were too many kids there already. To a neighbor calling to see how Caleb was doing and letting the 2 older ones come over after school so I could pay attention to Caleb. To being able to go down and grab a frozen meal brought over by friends before we left for Ch*na, for days just like today. To a husband who never has made me feel bad for complaining that I am overwhelmed today. To a Dr who while we were at the office and I'm explaining that my house is like a tornado went through and our Social Worker is coming over tonight for a post-placement report, saying she wished she had off so she could come over and clean it but not to worry it just shows what life with 4 kids is like. Oh I could go on and on but you know what was never said to me......well you knew it would be hard, what did you expect, well get use to it you chose to adopt a special needs when you had such young kids. You know what each statement that was said did.......it helped get me over that next hour or 2. It let me know I am not alone and that this little boy is worth it!!!!

He is amazing us daily. He now has said mama, daddy, come on, yes, no, bye bye and ball. Now given it is on his terms and never when you ask....lol. He does sport that wonderful stubborn gene! Also he is signing eat, drink, sleep, ball, more and all done. When he watches signing time he will copy many signs but doesn't use them.....but hey that is a start!!!

So we got to organizing the garage this weekend......LOVE LOVE LOVE anything that is organized. The weather has been absolutely amazing here. 70s in March in Wisconsin is something that doesn't come around often so we are spending every minute we can enjoying it!
Organized!!!!
Trying to get the kite untangled......
Success but I bet the neighbors got a good laugh at me running around trying to catch the wind :)
Looking cute and ready for church
Nate would play basketball all day if he could.
Just had to post this for Mimi and Papa....
Sorry video taped it the wrong way again so it is sideways.....he thought it was SO funny when Nathan bounced the ball. (Oh and don't pay attention to all the clothes in these pictures....We got out all the summer clothes but it took me a couple days to actually put them away :-) )

So I just have to say this is his favorite toy by far! It is the only toy he actually will sit and play with other then cars and trucks.
Well all for now.....we all need our sleep tonight so please pray that Caleb makes it through the night without his fever spiking again and that he can sleep without pain.
Awww I love the video of him playing with the pig toy! We have that toy also, and the girls love it but I have to say they do not stay as attentive to it as Caleb does! HA! Sounds like we had a similar weekend with pneumonia... UGH! I will be praying for Caleb and you all to get some sleep and for him to get better!!
ReplyDeleteIt's okay, mama - I hum off key too :) And Carter loves it. Or maybe he just tolerates it.
ReplyDeleteYep - stubbornness is definitely contained in that extra chromosome. Darnit :) Oh well - glad our boys know what they want, and will fight to get it. Positive thinking, right?!
Praying for a healthy house, girl. Love you!
Hey Juli! I saw that you commented on our blog...shoot me an email - then I will add you to my mass email that I am going to send out before travel. :-) Praying for TA to come soon! Tell ya what these waiting games are TOUGH! Praying that Caleb will sleep without his fever spiking!!
ReplyDeleteHey Julie, Ben sure loved his pig toy, too. Do you think Caleb is a leftie? He seemed to do better inserting coins with his left hand. You know what that means... One step closer to first base! :) Bless your sick child. They are all very lucky to have such loving parents. -Melissa Harmon
ReplyDeleteWe just got back from China a month ago with our son, also from Henan province! It looks like you are getting along quite well! Didn't you just love Jordon and Michael? We made sure to see them both since we met them 3 years ago when we were there to bring our daughter home! We also bought an extra suitcase from Michael. I think he does a pretty good business!
ReplyDeleteI would like to know the name of that piggy bank that Caleb is playing with. Looks like it might be a good thing for our son!
